Abstract
It is widely speaking that the Internet will change whole educational settings. However it is not true. There might be something to be remained after the introduction of Internet into the school and something terrible might be waiting for the society such as "digital divide". It is also possible that the introduction of Internet PC into the school increases disparities between excellent students and inferior students.
The author reviews the effects of introduction of information technology into school, especially the introduction of Internet PC. First the author starts this paper with reviewing brief historical background of information technologies in Japan (Information Suprhighway, Virtual Agency, and "Information A, B, C"). Next the author reviews important tools for education, such as web-browsing, search engines, Mailing Lists, Web-based Bulletin Board System, filtering software, and so on. Some new aspects of digital divide in Japan and necessity of authoring tool for the teachers are discussed in the final section.
